Position Overview
Join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team focused on delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure. We’re seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented engineer with experience in the design and condition assessment of mechanical and process systems, including pumping stations, chemical dosing systems, HVAC, and hydraulics. The ideal candidate will support and/or lead condition assessments, as well as the development of conceptual and detailed designs, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to high-quality deliverables for municipal infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Contribute to complex projects and key tasks from initial concept through to completion.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and expectations.
- Provide regular updates and reports to clients, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
- Address client concerns and provide solutions to ensure project success.
Technical Delivery
- Develop and review process and mechanical designs for water and wastewater infrastructure
- Lead condition assessments, including internal team members and external contractors/consultants
- Prepare technical documentation and support project deliverables
Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet the highest standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address any issues.
- Ensure all projects comply with safety regulations and environmental standards
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and review process and mechanical designs for water and wastewater infrastructure
- Specify equipment and prepare process narratives and P&IDs
- Coordinate with instrumentation and controls, civil, electrical, and structural teams
- Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and performance testing of systems
- Complete constructability reviews and contribute to bypass planning and ECA submissions
- Assist with project coordination tasks, including proposal development and internal team communication
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- ECA/CLI compliance and approvals support
- Supporting the development of asset management policies, strategies, plans and processes
- Supporting the establishment of measures and targets for service levels and performance
- Development of tools and spreadsheet models for the simulation and analysis of complex condition and investment scenarios
- Technical lead for facility assessments including water and wastewater treatment plants, municipal pumping stations, elevated and buried drinking water reservoirs, re-chlorination facilities, chemical dosing, treatment processes etc.
- Innovative approaches to design, construction, and controls integration of treatment and distribution systems
- Developing and preparing a variety of written documents, including technical reports, work plans, business cases, Standard Operating Procedures, and terms of reference
- Complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision
- Performing other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering (or related field)
- Relevant experience in water/wastewater infrastructure design.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or eligible.
Skills:
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, and relevant design codes.
- Experience preparing technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Preferred experience with condition assessments and conceptual design for pumping stations.
- Experience working with municipalities or public sector clients.
- Proficiency in engineering software tools including 3D CAD and BIM.
- Ability to think creatively and solve complex problems.
