Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Technical Specialist in Data Management & GIS to join our innovative team. This role is perfect for a technical expert who thrives in translating complex spatial data into actionable insights and is eager to contribute to groundbreaking infrastructure projects that make a true difference. As a Senior Technical Specialist, you will be the technical leader for all data management and GIS initiatives, driving spatial analysis capabilities, and maximizing the value of geospatial information for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management & GIS Leadership

Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive data management strategies and GIS frameworks for complex infrastructure projects.
Design and maintain enterprise-level spatial databases, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and security.
Establish data governance protocols and best practices for geospatial data collection, storage, and dissemination.
Oversee the integration of multiple data sources including field surveys, remote sensing, IoT sensors, and third-party datasets.

Technical Analysis & Modeling

Conduct advanced spatial analysis and modeling to support infrastructure planning and asset management decisions.
Develop custom GIS applications, tools, and automated workflows to enhance project efficiency and accuracy.
Create sophisticated spatial models for risk assessment, predictive analytics, and scenario planning.
Perform complex geospatial analysis including network analysis, terrain modeling, and environmental impact assessments.

Client Engagement & Technical Consulting

Serve as the primary technical expert for GIS and data management discussions with clients.
Translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for diverse stakeholder audiences.
Lead technical presentations and workshops on spatial data solutions and capabilities.
Collaborate with clients to understand their spatial data needs and develop tailored solutions.

Technology Innovation & Implementation

Stay at the forefront of GIS technologies, including cloud-based platforms, mobile GIS, and emerging spatial technologies.
Evaluate and implement new software, hardware, and methodologies to enhance service delivery.
Lead the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as AI/ML for spatial analysis, drone-based data collection, and real-time monitoring systems.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, data privacy regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.

Team Leadership & Knowledge Transfer

Mentor junior technical staff in GIS methodologies, data management principles, and spatial analysis techniques.
Lead technical training sessions and foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate spatial analysis into broader project deliverables.
Establish and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures.

What You’ll Be Doing

Designing and implementing enterprise GIS architectures and data management frameworks that support large-scale infrastructure projects.
Developing advanced spatial models and analytics for asset condition assessment, risk analysis, and predictive maintenance planning.
Creating interactive dashboards, web mapping applications, and mobile data collection solutions for field operations.
Leading the integration of IoT sensors, drones, and remote sensing technologies into comprehensive monitoring systems.
Conducting complex geospatial analysis including site suitability assessments, corridor analysis, and environmental impact modeling.
Managing large spatial datasets and implementing automated data processing workflows for efficiency and quality control.
Collaborating with engineering and planning teams to incorporate spatial analysis into infrastructure design and optimization.
Developing custom Python scripts, SQL queries, and GIS tools to automate repetitive tasks and enhance analytical capabilities.
Preparing detailed technical reports, maps, and visualizations that communicate complex spatial relationships to diverse audiences.
Leading data migration projects and system integrations to modernize client GIS infrastructure.
Conducting field data collection activities and training field personnel on mobile GIS applications.
Supporting the development of asset management strategies through advanced spatial analytics and condition modeling.
Facilitating workshops on spatial data best practices and emerging GIS technologies.
Building and maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues, technology vendors, and clients using principles of excellent customer service.
Doing amazing technical work with amazing clients and colleagues on projects that shape the future of infrastructure.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in GIS analysis, spatial database management, and enterprise GIS implementations.
- Proven track record of leading complex spatial analysis projects and data management initiatives.
- Experience with infrastructure, utilities, or municipal asset management applications preferred.
Skills:

Technical Skills

Expert proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online/Portal environments.
Advanced experience with spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, Oracle Spatial) and database design principles.
Strong programming skills in Python (ArcPy, geopandas, shapely) and experience with R or other statistical software.
Proficiency in web GIS development (JavaScript API, REST services, web mapping frameworks).
Experience with cloud GIS platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and modern data architectures.
Knowledge of remote sensing, GPS/GNSS surveying, and mobile GIS technologies.
Familiarity with CAD software integration and engineering data formats.

Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Project management experience with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Certifications:

GISP (Geographic Information Systems Professional) certification.
ESRI technical certifications (Enterprise Administration, Developer Associate, etc.).
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent.
