Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Intermediate GIS / Data Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of asset management principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage data, develop strategies, and support the implementation of asset management programs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to ensure optimal asset performance and sustainable management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership
- Contribute to complex projects or key tasks from initial concept through to completion.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Lead projects from proposal development through to project close out
- Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and expectations.
- Provide updates and reports to clients, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
- Proactively identify concerns and develop solutions to ensure project success
- Technical Delivery
- Participates in continuous improvement practices, on an ongoing basis, to minimize redundancy and maximize inter-operability among databases and data structures across GIS and Open Data repositories.
- Ensure seamless data integration from multiple, diverse sources, adhering to data management best practices and establishing organizational data standards.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet the highest standards.
- Conduct regular audits to identify and address any issues with data.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Analyzes and translates/interprets customer data from a variety of data sources
- Prepares, maintains, updates, transforms and analyzes the digital maps and associated data sets related to the client’s Geographic Information System.
- Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding
- Performs quality assurance/quality control tasks to ensure data integrity.
- Completes the development of Python scripts, FME Scripts, SQL queries, customized user interfaces, menus and other GIS applications using vendor-supplied programming tools and various software languages.
- Review, measure, and report on data quality on a regular cadence and provide oversight of programs that contribute to improving data quality
- Provides content administration, data dissemination, documentation, spatial analysis, map production, user training, and general GIS and Open Data user support to the business.
- Maintains metadata and/or GIS related application help documentation to include new or revised GIS and/or Open Data layers and/or application functionality.
- Complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision.
- Performing other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration or related field
Experience: Relevant experience as an analyst, with preference given to past experience in municipal setting.
Skills:
- Working knowledge and experience with a range of computer and software including: desktop and online GIS products (e.g. QGIS, Esri ArcGIS, Esri’s Open Data Portal, etc.), GIS databases (e.g. ArcSDE, Geodatabases, Oracle 12c, SQL Server), and Microsoft Tools (Power BI, Power Apps, Microsoft Access) would be considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of GIS and Open Data best practices.
- Self-motivation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with limited supervision
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to simultaneously organize and manage tight timelines and multiple priorities.
