Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Construction Inspector to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, sewers, watermains, and related civil works, as well as facility inspections, to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and municipal standards, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership
- Contribute to complex projects or key tasks from initial concept through to completion.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and expectations.
- Provide regular updates and reports to clients, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
- Address client concerns and provide solutions to ensure project success.
- Technical Delivery
- Participates in continuous improvement practices, on an ongoing basis
- Ensure Contractor adherence to contract specifications and design standards on-site.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet the highest standards.
- Ensure all projects comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervise and inspect (full time or part time) water and wastewater linear infrastructure projects to ensure that procedures and materials comply with the Contract Documents including drawings and specifications.
- Verify quantities, prepare daily progress reports and maintain written and photographic documentation and records, including warranty inspection and closeout.
- Participate in construction progress meetings.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, Contract Administrator, Client, Contractors, field staff, members of the public and other stakeholders.
- Identify and act on contractual or regulatory infractions.
- Resolve construction issues in conjunction with the Contract Administrator and Project Manager.
- Record As-Constructed information;
- Assist with quantity take offs;
- Review contractor’s progress payment certificate;
- Administer excellent construction safety practices on-site through Health & Safety policies and plans.
- Obtains necessary information from engineers, designers, operators/inspectors, municipal/provincial authorities and owners.
- Advises the Project Manager and Site Superintendent of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties.
- Evaluate appropriate construction materials.
- Performing other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: University degree or college diploma (3 years) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. OACETT designation as C.E.T. or C. Tech preferred.
- Experience: 3 – 5 years of relevant experience as a construction inspector, preferably for municipal clients.
- Drivers License: Class G license and access to own vehicle. Qualified applicant will be required to drive to jobsites. Mileage will be reimbursed at our standard rate.
Skills:
- Working knowledge and experience with heavy civil construction techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with water and wastewater assets,preferably in a municipal or related environment.
- Knowledge of GIS and Open Data best practices.
- Self-motivation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with limited supervision
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to simultaneously organize and manage tight timelines and multiple priorities.
